Ask Your SEO Consultant The Fundamentals

Sometimes search engine optimisation can seem like so many questions and so many different answers. If you've tried exploring this world by yourself and may have even picked up a few textbooks or been to some online research sites, then you will know that everybody has an opinion and it doesn't seem as if it's a finite science. Yet behind the scenes there are fundamental questions that need to be addressed and answered and whilst there may be different ways of looking at some of the methodology associated, one way or another you have to be able to check the boxes next to these questions.

Let's take a look at some of these questions and be prepared to ask your SEO consultant how he or she would tackle these, to help you with your online marketing efforts.

First of all, you need to look at your website itself

From an SEO perspective this is known as on page optimisation. Once again, there are some fundamentals to address. How does your site look from an aesthetic perspective? Hopefully, it's not self designed unless you have experience in this field, but it certainly must be nice to look at without any glaring errors, colours that clash and so on. The content that you have on each page needs to be pertinent, informative and very current. It's definitely not good to set it and forget it, as it were. If you want people to regularly return to your site with the aim of ultimately buying something from you, you had better make sure that your overall look is not stale.

Optimise your website content

That content needs to be pretty inspiring one way or another. If people are not ready to buy from you, you certainly want them to be engaged. Therefore, you want them to be able to share your content and you need to ask yourself a leading question – is this content shareable?

Don't put any obstacles in the way of your visitors if you want to get some productivity from your website.
Visitors need to be able to browse from one area of your site to another and it needs to make logical sense. This is something that the search engine robots also look at and don't forget that this process is purely automated. The robots are configured to look through each and every website in order to provide information necessary for the search engines. If you've got several dead ends and broken links, you will be penalised by them.

Ensure your website content is search engine friendly

Remember that your title tags must be well formed and inviting, as these contain information that is reproduced whenever your website is returned as a result to those who are searching. The search engine robots themselves also look at your description tags, so that they can match up the keywords that you are trying to rank for and identify that your content and presentation is applicable.

Remember that there are many fundamental questions that need to be asked and answered, as part of your goal to achieve online exposure.
